I Fagiolini: Angels & Demons
I Fagiolini brings an animated cast of Christmas characters to life in foot-tapping music from Italy, Germany and Spain. A hypnotic Neapolitan ‘tarantula’ dance wards off Lucifer, while from Salamanca, a villancico for voices, strings and percussion brings the ‘the Devil down in flames!’ At the other end of the scale Bach’s ‘pizzicato’ paints Advent knocking on the door of Christ’s arrival, while Monteverdi’s much-loved Beatus Vir gives a taste of Christmas Vespers.

I Fagiolini: Angels & Demons
From angels singing to confused shepherds, to the devil “shooting up in the air like a rocket!” – the internationally renowned vocal ensemble I Fagiolini brings an animated cast of Christmas characters to life in foot-tapping music from Italy, Germany and Spain.
Across the evening a hypnotic Neapolitan tarantella dance will ward off Lucifer, while from Salamanca, a villancico for voices, strings and percussion bring the “the Devil down in flames!” At the other end of the scale Bach paints Advent knocking on the door of Christ’s arrival, and Monteverdi’s much-loved ‘Beatus vir’ gives a taste of Christmas Vespers.
This programme is made particularly captivating by the ever-innovative I Fagiolini’s theatrical flair, and the playing of baroque violinist Rachel Podger’s Brecon Baroque, a group of some of the world’s finest period-instrument specialists.

I Fagiolini: Angels, Shepherds & Demons
Singing angels, baffled shepherds, the devil shooting up into the air like a rocket – I Fagiolini is a choir that knows how to put on a show, and their Christmas concert is no exception. In baroque Naples, angels dance the tarantella; over in Spain, guitars strum, castanets snap, and the celebrations start to get spicy. Meanwhile, Bach knocks at heaven’s door, Monteverdi sets toes-a-tapping, and if none of this is what you expect from a baroque choral Christmas, trust us – it’s very much business as usual for I Fagiolini! An unusual but (very) joyful festive romp from world-class singers at the absolute peak of their game.
